Full Day 4 Cenotes of Yucatan
Yucatán is famous for its unique freshwater lakes, called cenotes, considered as treasures of the peninsula, lost in the tropical jungle. Cenotes are deep natural wells of fresh water linked together by a system of underground rivers. The name «cenote» comes from the Mayan word «dzonot», which means «water cave». There are 4 types of cenotes:
- Cavern cenotes.
- Semi-open cenotes .

Itinerary
Día 1
Start of the tour
- We visit the cenotes of four elements (earth, water, fire and sky) and in each one, if they wish, in addition to swimming, we carry out other activities offered.
- Cavern Cenotes: These are the youngest and most mysterious cenotes, as they are located inside the cave, and the color of the water changes from emerald to bright turquoise when the sun's rays illuminate the surface of the water mirror through the holes and the "windows" in the cave walls.
- Semi-open cenotes: They are middle-aged cenotes, until they are not so old to open completely. Semi-open cenotes can be connected to each other and flow from one to another. And its waters are so transparent that they allow you to admire the underwater flora and fauna from the surface.
- Open cenotes: These are the oldest cenotes, since after time (in some cases, even millions of years), the cave walls were destroyed, depriving them of their cover. The open cenotes are distinguished by their natural beauty. In most, their walls are decorated with plants and flowers of different shades of green, red and orange, and they are also home to different species of butterflies and birds.
- Ancient Cenotes: Also for many millions of years, the dome and walls have completely collapsed, and the cenotes now look like more lagoons, as they have absolutely no rock formations. At the time they were the main sources of water for the ancient Mayans and the royal oases in the middle of the rainforest.
