40km / 25 miles from Valladolid, we start with this impressive Mayan-Toltec city, one of the seven wonders of the world. We will arrive almost when they barely open so we will be in the place without so many people (before the buses from the Riviera Maya), also the earlier the less heat. A certified bilingual guide will explain (+ - 1h30min) everything about the ancient Itzaes, about the Kukulkan pyramid that is 30m / 98 feet high, here is the largest ball court in all of Mesoamerica.
The observatory: The Mayans were distinguished by their astronomical knowledge, they did not have a telescope but used the windows of this structure that are perfectly aligned towards the cardinal points, in this way they followed the movements of Venus, the Moon, the sun and all these celestial phenomena.
Palace of the nuns: We will learn about this palace, where we will be able to realize the different architectural styles that the Mayas.After the guided tour, they will have free time (+ - 1 hour) to enjoy it to the fullest
Yokdzonot: After the visit of Chichen Itzá we go to a very beautiful and quiet cenote where you can immerse yourself in its wonderful waters. Right here we will have lunch, regional food made by people from the local community.
Izamal, Convent: This town is known as "The Yellow City", its convent was built in the XV century on Mayan vestiges and has the second largest closed atrium in the world, this is a magical town in Mexico.
We will walk through the town to reach one of the Mayan structures that still exist, we will have the opportunity to climb it, it is one of the 3 largest structures in terms of volume in all of Mesoamerica.
Before returning to Valladolid, we will have the opportunity to see the work of one of the many talented artisans that Izamal offers us:
- Cocoyol: handmade jewelry made from the seeds of a local fruit and the thorns of the famous henequen.
- Miniatures: works of art on a small scale.
- Papier-mâché: great paper work, hand painted.
- Wood carving: This is one of the most common art in the Mayan region.
- Pick up: 7:00am - 7:30am depending on the hotel, time to be confirmed.
